Australian International Airshow

Melbourne's Avalon Airport is home to the Australian International Airshow. For three days each summer, the Airshow features a vast array of the latest military heavy metal from Australia and overseas, including supersonic jet fighters and attack helicopters. Visitors can also get up close to a large number of vintage, classic and experimental aircraft as well as marvel at the show's high flying barnstormers and precision stunt performers. After the sun goes down there's Night Alight, the Airshow's breathtaking, fiery and explosive finale.

National Championship Air Races

The National Championship Air Races, held each September just north of Reno, is a spectacular demonstration of the art of flying that simply needs to be seen to be believed. Billed as 'the world's fastest motor sport', air races are the formula one of the skies, were extremely high performance aircraft fly at low altitude around a course of pylons. The event is a major draw for aviation enthusiasts and has been for more than half a century. The National Championship Air Races features six racing classes, a large display of static aircraft and several military and civil flight demonstrations.

Paris Air Show

Paris Air Show

Established way back in 1909 — a mere six years after Orville and Wilbur Wright briefly took to the skies over Kitty Hawk — the Paris Air Show is the oldest and largest air show in the world. Today, the biennial event (held every odd year) takes place over a week in June at Le Bourget Airport in north Paris. The first four days are devoted to trade but the final three are open to the public. Visitors come in their droves to take in more than 150 aircraft doing their thing in the air and being exhibited on the ground.
