Frankfurt Book Fair

Frankfurt's history with the published word is well documented. Just down the road in Mainz, Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable-type printing press way back in 1439. Book fairs have been a part of the city from that time on. In its current form, the Frankfurt Book Fair has been around since 1949, when Frankfurt's Paulskirche hosted the first post-War book fair. Today the Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest in the world, welcoming more than a quarter of a million visitors and 7,000 exhibitors from over 100 countries. It's a must visit event for those in the publishing industry as well as great place to stock up on reading materials for the long Northern European winter to come. The first three days are limited to those in the trade and on the weekend the Fair is open to the public.
